why she started dynamic dyslexia tutoring
Michelle realized there were many children in the upper grades who were passed along in the educational system without being able to read at a first-grade level. She also realized that there were many students who were not able to meet the district curriculum expectations for reading, writing, and spelling. Unfortunately, there weren’t many resources available for those struggling readers and spellers who needed more individualized help. Feeling frustrated and unable to help these children read at a higher level, she commenced her investigation to locate teaching methods to help tutor these struggling students.
Years later, Michelle had an opportunity to work for a team of Neuropsychologists who diagnosed learning disorders and behavioral problems to find out that many of these children had dyslexia. Again, there weren’t many resources available locally, so she decided to educate herself on dyslexia and began training herself using the Barton Reading & Spelling System.
She knew instantly that her passion for teaching was still there and she was inspired by how these children were starting to read and spell with greater fluency and accuracy after only a few months of tutoring.
Michelle decided to start Dynamic Dyslexia Tutoring, a private tutoring business that consists of 50 minutes, one on one tutoring, for a minimum of two to four sessions a week. She uses the Barton Reading & Spelling System, evidence based, Orton-Gillingham influenced reading, spelling and writing program for anyone age 5 or older, speaks English, has an IQ of at least 70, and who struggles with reading fluency, accuracy, spelling, and writing thoughts onto paper.
